EVALUATION.

For the process of the special effects unit, i analysed a brief Brave new world, this was divided into two sections, making a wound and creating an Hybrid. For this section the requirements were following the step by step instructions given for the process of creating a hybrid. I found the whole unit was very demanding and i did fall behind rather a lot. Firstly i had missed two weeks of uni which created the main problem as i was not their for crucial lessons on how to make the hybrid moulds from the start. Eventually i had caught up and managed to bullet point the processing stage, I found i panicked a lot an did rush a lot throughout making mould just because i felt people where at a higher stage than me.

Reading over the selected briefs given i was pleased to give the oportunity to explore our own skills of creating a hybrid, considering a lot of my work previously went wrong i am please with the outcome of my final look.

Overall, i have enjoyed special effects and i found it was a great challenge to have chose. I will be using this unit as future references and i hope to practice more looks as this was only really a brief unit and was given as a boundary to have met.

FINAL SHOOT.

Today consisted of creating my hybrid, first i started off with applying 3 moulds i had previously made yesterday to my models face. I prepared the skin with glue and the back of the mould and waited until it dried. One of my bad pointers of todays assessment was i found i didn't wait long enough and went it came to melting away the edges i found that a lot of the glue was clumpy and i couldn't shift away as you may see in the following photos below.

After i had shot the look with make up i began to apply fullers earth and colour, this was the fun part. The fullers earth didn't try completely and the reason i like this is earth does have its dry and wet parts so it did work really well with look i was going for. With the hair i section fine pieces and started to pull across the face to try and create a visual effect and tree branches with the moulds.
In one of my referenced images i seen mother nature visuals have paint work of the world/earth so i wanted to convey this into my look. In the following images you will see my final look, in numerous frame shots.

Am i pleased with the outcome? well yes i'm more than pleased it worked extremely well and looks even better on camera. The things i would change if i had the chance, is make sure i paced myself and waited for the glue to try so the moulds were more blended.
So considering i did fall behind and ended up not using the mould in the begining i think i have done a fantastic job of not panicking and getting the job done and i would say all i can do now is be pleased of my work and look back and learn from my mistakes.

HYBRID OUTCOME - PROCESS MAKING

Well.... how do i start this post? Last week was one of the most stressful weeks going, everything was going wrong and i mean EVERYTHING. I was falling behind in my work, i had just started a new job which is a good thing also, and my iron level were low so all i wanted to do was sleep or scream.

Well today i walked into the lesson confident as ever untilllll.. it was negative mould making. As i come from a creative back ground it is seen that every idea i create it's always a lot more complicated than planned. Well this is what has gone wrong throughout the mould making process.

In the beginning my mould happened to be far too wind and to high for my  A & B to cover, at first i was told i had enough product left but when i poured on the liquid it did not fully cover my mould. This was a choice i made and i know from now with little product i should of created something more simple, but now i have made this mistake, i can only learn from it.

After having a stressful through two weeks with the wound making, i hoped this process was going to be more simple, Unfortunately it just kept getting worse, I had to press my mould so the product was cover it. This was a risk to make and hoped for the best. Now all i had to was wait...

Following this making stage i was not in for the following week as i had a work meeting in my new job. This has affected me more than i thought but i thought i have stayed very calm.

Today i got to see my negative mould, After it having two weeks to set i thought it would be very try and ready for me to start making my positive moulds, this was not the case. Unfortunately, contamination happened and the mixture hadn't set properly underneath on one corner as you may see in the below image.

So now we are a day before submission an i have no mould, Luckily i had made two clay moulds in the very beginning, one which was a lot smaller and less.  I didn't stress in fact i didn't even get in a mood, i just accepted that it had gone wrong an i had to work quick.

Plan B

I paced myself and took my time making this mould, i made sure i was in a comfortable zone and started to make my negative mould, which i can say i am happy with. It took 1hr to dry and i then started making my positive. Unfortunately i have only managed to make one today which is fully dry and one is drying, tomorrow i hope to make 3 more.

How has this effected me?

Even though i didn't  get in a mould while i was told my negative piece wasn't useable, i did start to lose my tether while making the positive moulds. Personally i think this stage is more fast pace and demanding and my head is current like a jumble sale so i couldn't exactly concentrate. Emotionally, this has made me exhausted and makes me question am i capable of special effects in my future career? i understand it would be different but after this past unit i have had huge amounts of anxiety and stress.

What have i gained from this experience?

I have enjoyed the experienced and i have created the skills of making a prosthetic mould. This experience has gave me the best ability and knowledge to whether it is a good idea to switch career path with make up.  I will take away from these session what i have learnt and continue to practice with the left over products. I also know in future references if i have my own products i can work in my own time instead of being felt to rush or having a limited time to produce something i wish to create.

too be continued....

HYBRID RESEARCH - MOTHER NATURE

As i have begun to research into my idea of mother nature, i started with the whole idea of what moulds will i make;

I decided if i created the bark of a tree with fullers earth i would be able to create the roots of a tree and also the branches out of silicone moulds while adding colour and flowers as accessories.

What will i need?

  • Fullers Earth.
  • A B & C.
  • Baldiez.
  • Latex gloves.
  • Model (duuhh).
  • Moulds.
  • Spirit Gum.
  • Gel.
  • Bald Cap (optional).
  • Pros-aide.
  • Supra-colour Palette.
  • Wooden Sticks.
  • Cups.
  • Alcohol.
  • Pro clean.
  • Extra products i wish to use. i.e Flowers.

Above show ways of peoples concept of mother nature and how they wish other to visualise their design. These selected images will help with my Final design and how i wish to portray some of the idea's given
One Particular image i found was the above, and this will give me inspiration to my final design. My idea has always originated from some sort of tree and outraged into mother nature.

Mother nature is seen in different ways in the make up industry as you can see in the above selected images and i wish to convey each one into my own design. Each an every design i have seen i acknowledge each everyone is perfectly detailed. I hope to be able to achieve this look but if all fails as i am not the most confident person in this criteria due to previous mistake which i hope to learn from. I will show my creative skills and try to create a look with visual impact using colours and accessories.

HUMAN TRANSFORMATION - TEXT

REFERENCES FOR HYBRID IDEAS

AVATAR

Film Directed by James Cameron, This film is one of the most iconic films in the prosthetic industry while being know for the Blue Alien like characters. This film inspired me to want to work with prosthetics. It made me question on how they got to that stage of looking so realistic.

A fact i didn't not know while watching this film is that the Avatars are created by using a animation computer software where a camera detect the motion around.

The film is a fantasy film which tells a story of a human who is physically disabled being used to manipulate science an become one the avatars to enter the world Pandora.

After watching the above image i now understand why this way of effects was performed for a more effective achievement and outcome. It is astonishing what todays technology can do, James Cameron certainly put a lot of thought of how he wanted to present his hybrids and he chosen the electronic way.

HISTORY OF HYBRIDS

History.

Many years scientists have been creating transgenic bacteria and animals, so that some foreign (human or non-human) genes are purposely inserted into the genome of a living being.
The first medication produced using modern genetic engineering techniques was insulin, this producer required human DNA being inserted into a host cell (E.coli in this case). Due to the inserted human DNA, they produced human insulin.

Hybrids

While researching into the history of hybrids i came across an article by Ackermann on the BBC website. This explained genetic was was produced element of a certain create, animal or plant. It goes on to analyses whether us humans are also considered to be hybrids.

It is seen if your ancestors was from anywhere near Africa, it was a safe bet you are part Neanderthal.

Writing in the journal Evolutionary Biology, Ackermann and colleagues argue that hybridisation has worked in tandem with other evolutionary processes "that act to diversify populations".

Hybridisation can also result in new combinations of traits, says Ackermann. "It can be quite a creative evolutionary force, which is not how people thought in the past. Brand-new things could be the product of hybridisation."

Ackermann studies hybrid mice and has found that hybrid lineages often have anomalies in their teeth. There was also a great deal in variation of their size. If these new traits are useful, they can be passed onto future generations. Acknermann written in the journal evolutionary biology.

Theory of humans originating from monkey are making us question and consider our humans hybrids, in a former post analysing what human transformation is,  i show a photo of a monkey transforming into a human, therefor we are seen to have the traits of a monkey.

The quote;

"There is one problem with the idea that hybridisation has been crucial for our evolution. We do not have evidence of any interbreeding between species before modern humans left Africa. "

is seen to be an importance to make me an others doubt the birth of humans and if we are considered as a form of a hybrid. As there is seen to be found no evidence to how humans were created or what creature we formed from Ackermann persits her research and how us humans are seen to be created.

COLOURS

COLOURS

Typical question is what colours will i be using for my final idea? Well as my idea is very floral i decided to go with yellows, oranges, pinks, purples and of course greens. Following below is showing tester colours.

I would like the hybrid to be bright an noticeable, like a blooming tree, the base will of course be brown and cover in fullers earth.

FULLER EARTH.

As my hybrid has nature elements, i thought i would use fuller earth. Fullers earth is great for making texture and would be excellent with my idea.
Below shows images of how i hope the texture will look.

RICK BAKER VIDEO

HUMAN TRANSFORMATION - FILM

AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON

One film which holds human transformation is American werewolf in London, the clip below shows Rick Baker, transforming into a werewolf.

NEXT POST SHOWS VIDEO.

Nathan Noah (2010) Rick Baker Werewolf transformation from an American Werewolf in London (1981). Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9QPouW-XZ4 (Accessed: 30 November 2015)

I established the clip was not very pleasant, i'm a typical person who finds these types of things creepy. Not only was this not pleasant but Rick looks in a lot of pain, i've never fully understood why this would hurt. Being a major fan of Vampire diaries, i never really looked in to why it would hurt when the werewolf turn.

In vampire diaries also, there is a creation of a hybrid, which is half werewolf and vampire, this give the power of killing someone but also helping someone. Many of the characters in the programme would not like to be a hybrid while other werewolf would, this is because they have the full control of when they turn and not just on a full moon.

HYBRID IDEAS

Human Hybrid Ideas

Receiving this brief was interesting, i had so many ideas! One of my idea's consisted of a real life human angel, I have currently just started working for Victoria's Secret and one of their main elements of their company is the Angels.

This idea sprung to me when i was on my training day an they shown the angels walking the catwalk with massive feathers so i had the idea to why not design a real life Victoria's angel? The video clips what i seen during my training day were inspirational, for legal reasons i was not able to present these onto my blog.

This Angels main elements would be:

  • Perfect figure - so model would have to be thin, which a great figure.
  • Perfect cheek bones - i would make these moulds.
  • WINGS! - possible make the wings out of moulds, of at least the root of the wings.

Pros

This idea was interesting, i was crazy about it so it meant that one of the pros would be i would have full attention on creating this to be amazing. Who wouldn't want to achieve their own angel?

Cons

In today's society a lot of young women, don't have a perfect shape, nor was i will to offend anyone who didn't so finding a model would be extremely difficult.
How heavy will the feathers be? Where will you get the feathers or wing? I am i over doing this considering my snake bite didn't go exactly how i planned?
Time limit - Remembering i'm a week behind.

So many ways to look at this design and it probably wasn't the simplest idea so i decided to research onwards on to a different concept.

Alien Hybird

Next idea was an alien hybrid, the basic Sci-fi concept you seen this time of design in majority of the Sci-fi movies. This idea didn't really pull my attention, as i found it was a basic view on something half human, I understand it would be totally cool and a little interesting but i wanted to create something i've never seen before, something unusual.

Visuals

Heather Rae's video's helped me to understand the anatomy of an area, of how i would like to structure my moulds face or disfigure a certain area. I was fascinated by the Video's and images, it did give me a can do attitude, but i was 100% that the idea was for me. I wanted to find bigger and better.

A lot the face off series helped me decide and visualise a design was looking for. After experience the mistaken with the snake bite knew i couldn't afford to pick an idea which was to complicated for my skills i behold. Watching over face off shows how surreal the challenge can be and how tense the situation is to make sure it goes completely correct, i find is this area a slight mistake can ruin the whole look. Reflecting back on the video's gave me a positive attitude and opened my eyes that one day i will be able to create a look so intense and detail like the above.

While researching in to the finals of the face-off these design created by the 3 individuals only had minor flaws. The winner was Rashaad an i found he work was in fact very detailed and seen his work was ethic and skill resonated just like previous winners on the show.

REFLECTIVE THOUGHTS - SNAKE BITE

Reflecting back onto my Snake bite moulds, i was disappointed with the out come of the positive mould it did break away when i removed it from the mould and i did have to cut away selections of the mould, once i added paint work it become more realistic but after reviewing back to my photos once the day had gone, i noticed flaws which i didn't want. Considering this was my first wound i was happy that had finished it completely and made it to the end.

Things i have learnt during this part of the unit;

  • The unit is very on demand, you have to be quick and effective.
  • It's not for everyone, some people struggle, me being one but some people don't.
  • If you work at your on pace you will succeed. Just take a break every so often.
  • You need a lot of space to work, i found i felt claustrophobic throughout the session and would much rather work on my own.
  • You have to be full prepared if you are making a mould and for it to turn out correct.
  • Follow health and safety rules!  This is compulsory to prevent contamination

HUMAN TRANSFORMATION

What is human transformation?

Human transformation is exceeding into human prior to being something beforehand, becoming more than human... Processing from defective evolutionary creature into a effective existential reality... Changing from one thing into another, or from one manner of being or doing into new manner of being and doing, Ascending to a higher level of order.

Human transformation can be seen by human desperation;

Majority of people have something they wish to change if they had the chance; A better job, new house, improved relationships, more money... and these wishes are continue until we reach our full prospects. Sometimes we claim to be who we are not and therefore must be up guards against exposure, fronts and cover up our shortcomings, and failures. This type of defensive posturing uses up a lot of good energy that could be appropriated elsewhere.

Tension created by this polarity ends in fear, anxiety, paranoia and loss of direction, all of which can lead to further bad health, lack of success and dissatisfaction with life. Feeling of love peace and connectedness, universal security, and overwhelming ecstasy are not easy to come by when the focus of attention is on the outer world. Only by returning to inner-space can such experience be seen.

Techniques have been created to treat symptoms cause by the difference between manifested and un-manifest selves, nothing short of true harmonic transformation can have lasting effect.

While human transformation can also be seen, as a human transforming into a animal, car or even plant. Humans are seen to come from apes, below is a image of a ape transforming into a human.

Another factor of human transformation is shown in the film transformers, they are human like robots but also seen as a car before transforming.

Conclusion -

Human transformation is something which is something not created through nature and usually manipulated by science.

HUMAN HYBRID - WHAT IS IT?

First of all what is a hybrid?

1.
A hybrid if the offspring of two plants or animals of different species or varieties such a mule.
"The bird was a hybrid of a goose and a swan"
    Synonyms: Cross, cross-breed, mixed-bred; More

2.
A hybrid is a thing created by combining two different elements.
"Jungle is a hybrid of reggae and house music"

So now i know what i hybrid is, what is a Human hybrid?

A human hybrid would be something which is crossed/combined with the human element. Depending on what you wanted your hybrid to be; Animal or plant.

Hybrids can vary from being a plant, animal or even Alien. You may be surprised thinking you was not sure what a hybrid consisted of but majority of the film you watch have hybrids involved.

Following images show two human hybrids:

Half human, half dog.

Half human, Half walrus.

  1. Splice
  2. Harry Potter - Various of them.
  3. Spiderman
  4. Cat women
  5. Batman
  6. Jurassic Park - This is seen to purposely combined two elements of different dinosaurs together.
  7. Arron from hybrid
